Building Plans Approved

NEW COMMUNITY SPACE PLANNED FOR BROADSTONE

A new community space is planned for Broadstone, with a development at St John’s Church set to provide an attractive facility for the public, businesses, clubs and schools to use all year round.

The church on Macaulay Road has received planning permission to build an annex facing Dunyeats Road, creating a flexible venue with a large atrium, two meeting rooms, and well-equipped kitchen suitable for exercise classes, concerts and exhibitions, after-school clubs, or birthday parties. Equipped with the latest technology for presentations and illustrated talks it will be ideal for local groups or businesses seeking a unique meeting spot.

Revd Helen Bailey, vicar of St John’s, said, ‘Our existing parish hall is already well-used by local organisations and families – we are often booked to capacity, to the extent that we struggle to book in our own events. This sensitively designed extension enables us to offer a fabulous new space for all sorts of community groups and functions as well as allow us to improve the church’s service to the people of Broadstone.‘

The plans and pictures of the venue will be on view in church throughout the morning on Saturday 23rd March, and St John’s is throwing open its doors that evening at 7pm with a Wine and Canape Reception. Contact the Parish Office on 01202 697641 or email admin@stjohnschurchbroadstone.org.uk for a free ticket to this event.

‘We intend to use the space ourselves for ventures that support the needs of different social groups within Broadstone. We are supporting Broadstone’s Neighbourhood Development Plan and looking to the community and local businesses to get behind this project, which offers such a valuable space to local people,’ Revd Helen said.

Two thirds of the funding is secured, and the church is launching a fund-raising and information campaign for the remaining £350,000 to enable the work to begin on the project designed by local architects Morgan Carey.
