Roger Leach: Churchwarden elect

Roger Leach: Churchwarden

Roger trained as a Mechanical Engineer in Birmingham and moved to Poole in 1970 with his wife Penny. They have lived in Merley since 1972. The family began worshipping at St. John’s in the early 1980’s. They have two grown-up sons, Andrew and Simon, who with their wives, Jenny and Suzanne, have between them produced four grandchildren for them. Roger and Penny ran the church youth group on Friday evenings for a number of years whilst Penny also assisted with the Sunday School. Roger was very involved with the Scout movement from 1958 as a Wolf Cub, going on to becoming District Commissioner for Poole West in the 1980’s, until unfortunately work required him to travel extensively overseas. He has served on the PCC on a number of occasions as well as the Deanery Synod and has been a sidesperson. In recent years he has been very involved in many maintenance jobs for the church. Both Penny and Roger assist as members of one of the Church Sunday Lunch teams.

Roger retired early from Hamworthy Combustion Engineering in 2010 where he was Group Supply Chain Manager. Since then he has, in addition to church maintenance, been an active member of the Bournemouth and Poole MG owners club and pursued his hobbies of woodwork and DIY. He recently installed a fish pond in his garden, the remnants of which became the St. John’s Easter Garden, though he admits that his gardening skills extend only to hard landscaping and mowing the lawn.
